Ian G. Anson, Ph.D.
Ian G. Anson is a political scientist, teacher-scholar, author, political analyst, podcast host, and mentor. His primary scholarly interests lie at the intersection of the fields of public opinion, political communication, political behavior, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Ian currently serves as Associate Director of the UMBC Institute of Politics.
Ian holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and a M.S. in Applied Statistics from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He is also a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A. in Political science, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Sigma Alpha).
Ian’s scholarly work has appeared in a variety of peer-reviewed outlets, including Political Behavior, Political Psychology, Political Research Quarterly, and Public Opinion Quarterly, among others. His bylines have appeared in the Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun, and he is a frequent political commentator on Baltimore and DC-area TV and radio networks.
Ian’s first book, Following the Ticker: The Political Origins and Consequences of Stock Market Perceptions, was published in 2023 by SUNY Press. Ian’s second book, on the political consequences of epistemic overconfidence, is currently in preparation.
